Raymond Cipollini, President
Cycling Expertise
Mr. Cipollini has been a member of the cycling industry since 1976 as a competitor, racing official, racing coach, team
owner/manager, and race organizer. Most recently, he was an original founder,
Director Sportif, and Business Manager of the Navigators Insurance Professional
Cycling Team. The Navigators Team was developed from a club-team in 1994,
and was the longest-running Professional Cycling Team in North America, enjoying
a 13-year existence through 2006 with Ray at the helm (the Team enjoyed a 14th
season in 2007, but ceased operations at the end of the year). The team was also
one of the longest running Union Cycliste Internationale (the UCI is the
International Federation of cycling) Professional Teams, and one of only a
handful that have held a single title sponsor for its entire existence.
Mr. Cipollini was elected, and served two, 4-year terms (1999-2006) as a Team Manager Trustee of USPRO, the organization responsible for the governance and oversight of professional cycling in the United States.
In addition, he was appointed to the USA Cycling Board of Directors in 2005 in
an interim capacity. USA Cycling is the National Governing Body of cycling in the
U.S, and is the "parent" organization of USPRO. Mr. Cipollini
has also been a long-time advocate for the rights of professional cyclists and
has worked with members of the anti-doping organizations to improve operational
and logistical procedures.
As a member of the international, professional
cycling community, Mr. Cipollini is well-versed in the complex and highly
technical aspects of creating and managing professional cycling initiatives
throughout the world. From logistics, marketing, and contract negotiations, Mr.
Cipollini has experience in the roles of athlete, team owner, media officer,
event organizer, marketer, and racing official. This unique perspective of the
"big picture" of professional cycling is an important facet of his
approach to finding solutions to the complex needs of each aspect, and
stakeholder, of the sport.
Professional Expertise
A self-confessed "gadget-geek", he has worked in a technical and managerial capacity
(data networking and computer programming/processing) for industry giants such
as; Merrill Lynch, AIG (American International Group), and Dun & Bradstreet.
This past corporate experience (16 years) is a valuable asset as Mr. Cipollini
creates structured, yet flexible programs for the professional cycling
industry.
